In Slavonia, oranges were given as a beautiful gift at Christmas. And only then did they start making scented sweets with orange. I want to offer you today a very delicious cake, with walnuts and chocolate, without butter or flour.

Arriving in Zagreb early in the morning, still dark, and find it already in full activity. Zagreb. Always on the move without ever appearing stressed. Always have time for a coffee, sitting at the table, smoking a cigarette with friends. Until a few years ago, on the station board, you could see destinations such as Paris, Rome, Sofia, Instambul, Munich, Zurich. The real center of Europe, a crossroads of cultures and routs.

C’era sempre un dolce in casa. Non vedevamo mai nostra nonna prepararne. Era come una magia. Come una cosa che si dovesse fare di nascosto. Finito un dolce ne compariva subito un altro. Durante il pomeriggio, noi bambini interrompevamo i nostri giochi per correre come matti al grido “Aiuto i dolci!” (Upomoc Kolaci!) e fare la nostra merenda. A volte mi svegliavo la mattina molto presto per andare al bagno, e il bagno era fuori in cortile, una piccola casetta di legno. Era ancora buio, tra...
